DAMN.
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
DAMN. was released on 14 April 2017 as Kendrick Lamar's fourth album. He brought in many producers, including Sounwave, DJ Dahi and Mike Will Made It, and had guests such as Rihanna, Zacari and U2. The album is counted among conscious hip hop, with trap, R&B and pop running through it. Mike Will originally made the beat of Humble for a recording with Gucci Mane, until Lamar kept it for himself. On DNA he rapped the second verse a cappella and had the beat built around it, so that it sounds like a fight with the beat.
Humble became his first number 1 on the American Hot 100. The album topped the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy for Best Rap Album. In 2018 it earned him the Pulitzer Prize for Music, the first time for an artist from outside classical music and jazz. A Collectors Edition with a reversed track list was released later.
