Centerfield
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
After the quarrels with his record company, Fogerty had made no record for nine years, and he never released his album Hoodoo. In 1985 he returned with Centerfield, which he played entirely himself: he recorded every instrument single-handedly with overdubs. The cover shows a worn baseball glove, as in the title song.
The singles The Old Man Down the Road, Rock and Roll Girls and Centerfield became hits; the first was his only top ten hit as a solo artist. The album also had a legal sequel. Zanz Kant Danz became Vanz Kant Danz, to avoid a lawsuit from Saul Zaentz. Zaentz also sued Fogerty because The Old Man Down the Road was said to resemble a Creedence song, but Fogerty won. Spin wrote that his skills were intact.
