The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get, from 1973, is the second solo album by the American guitarist and singer Joe Walsh. It was released on ABC-Dunhill Records and became his commercial breakthrough, thanks above all to the hit Rocky Mountain Way, which reached the top forty. The album even entered the top ten.
He shares the singing and writing with the other members of Barnstorm: drummer Joe Vitale, bassist Kenny Passarelli and newcomer Rocke Grace. As a result, you hear blues, jazz, folk, pop and even Caribbean music. Because the album was released under his name alone, the band fell apart. The cover shows a British First World War Sopwith Snipe. AllMusic calls each of the nine songs worthwhile.
