Wired
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Wired is the British guitarist Jeff Beck's second solo album and was released in 1976 on Epic Records. Like its predecessor it is an instrumental album, once again with George Martin as producer. Four tracks were written by the drummer Narada Michael Walden and one by the synthesizer player Jan Hammer. Beck also chose Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, Charles Mingus's tribute to the saxophonist Lester Young, and Led Boots had also long been part of his live repertoire.
Hammer plays synthesizer on a number of tracks, Max Middleton plays clavinet and Fender Rhodes. On release the reviews were mostly positive: Rolling Stone called the record full of fire and imagination, although Robert Christgau found it technically accomplished but soulless. Allmusic places Blow by Blow and Wired together as a benchmark for instrumental rock. The record reached number 16 on the American chart.
