Harmony Row
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Harmony Row is Jack Bruce's third studio album, released in July 1971. The title refers to a street in Glasgow, close to where he grew up. The cover was shot at the row of houses in Govan. The recording took place at Command Studios in London, in January 1971, with Chris Spedding on guitar and John Marshall on drums.
Vocals, guitars and drums were recorded at the same time on each track, with a live feel. Spedding later spoke of the tension in the studio: some tracks were challenging and everyone wanted to play them without mistakes. Bruce later called it his favourite solo album, although it did not chart on release. The single The Consul at Sunset is inspired by the novel Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry.
