Lethal Injection

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Lethal Injection is Ice Cube's fourth studio album. It was released on 7 December 1993 on Priority Records. The producers included QDIII, Madness 4 Real, Sir Jinx and Laylaw, and the rapper co-produced himself. Three singles were released: Really Doe, You Know How We Do It and Bop Gun (One Nation), a track with a Funkadelic sample that was shown often on MTV. Down for Whatever became known through the 1999 film Office Space.

Critical opinion was divided. Some felt that he was adapting to gangsta rap and dealing with fewer social themes than on earlier records. The lyrics were also criticised as anti-police, racist and misogynistic. Over the years the appreciation of the album has grown.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Bop Gun (One Nation), on which George Clinton sings along. Notice how the funk of Funkadelic lies beneath the track.
