Horace Silver Trio

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Horace Silver Trio · This album was released in 1956 on Blue Note and collects recordings from 9 and 20 October 1952 and 23 November 1953. The pianist Horace Silver plays in a trio with the drummer Art Blakey. In 1952 the bassists are Gene Ramey and Curley Russell, in 1953 Percy Heath. In Mesage From Kenya, Sabu's conga joins in.

The sessions had previously been released on two 10-inch records: Introducing the Horace Silver Trio from 1952 and Horace Silver Trio and Art Blakey, Vol. 2 from 1953. The 12-inch LP left out four tracks from those records. The CD reissue contains all sixteen tracks from the original sessions. Alfred Lion was the producer, Rudy Van Gelder did the remastering and Leonard Feather wrote the sleeve notes.
