Sandbox
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Sandbox is Guided by Voices' second studio album, from 1987. It has twelve short songs, most of about two minutes. In 1995 Robert Pollard described it as an attempt to make an enormous power pop record for less than a thousand dollars. Steve Wilbur plays guitar on Barricade and Can't Stop.
The reception was divided. AllMusic gave two out of five stars and felt that the band was taking a step back. Byron Coley of Spin, on the other hand, called the group one of the sharpest-sounding Anglophile pop bands in the Midwest since Green. In Spin's 1995 guide the record received just a 1 out of 10.
