Double Vision

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Double Vision is Foreigner's second album. It was recorded between March and May 1978 and released on 20 June 1978 on Atlantic Records. It is the only album co-produced by Keith Olsen and the last with bassist Ed Gagliardi, who was later replaced by Rick Wills. There is a joke attached to the title: A&R man John Kalodner had his name in the credits twice, at Mick Jones's suggestion.

The singles were Hot Blooded (number 3 on the American Hot 100), Double Vision (number 2) and Blue Morning, Blue Day (number 15). Tramontane is the only instrumental track the band has released on a studio album. Jones sings lead himself on Back Where You Belong and I Have Waited So Long. Critics saw the album as a continuation of the debut: one spoke of slick production without artistic depth, another of hard rock at its best.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Tramontane, the only instrumental track, and notice the heavy keyboard part and how the band members take turns in the spotlight.
