Foreigner
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The debut album of the British-American band Foreigner was released on 8 March 1977 on Atlantic. Guitarist Mick Jones had already written several songs before the band existed. Singer Lou Gramm sang three of them during his audition: Feels Like the First Time, Woman Oh Woman and At War with the World. Jones wanted Roy Thomas Baker as producer, but he had no time. Gary Lyons and John Sinclair of Sarm Studios therefore took on the production, together with Jones and Ian McDonald. The first mix in London was not liked, so the album was remixed at Atlantic Recording Studios.
Three tracks became hits: Feels Like the First Time, Cold as Ice and Long, Long Way from Home. In Starrider, Jones sings lead himself, something that rarely happens. Reviews varied. One reviewer found the production tight but the band's own vision too thin, while AllMusic later praised the craftsmanlike rock work.
