Tusk
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Tusk · After the enormous success of Rumours, Lindsey Buckingham did not want a repeat. He resisted a sequel that Warner Bros. would gladly have had. Mick Fleetwood decided early on that it should be a double album. Buckingham was influenced by post-punk and bands such as Talking Heads. Some of his tracks, such as The Ledge, he recorded at home and played himself, and on some he used a tissue box as a snare.
The record sounded sparser and stranger than the previous album. Fleetwood Mac released it on 12 October 1979. The production costs were later estimated at 1.4 million dollars, at the time the most expensive rock album. The record company regarded sales of four million copies as a failure, compared with the ten million of Rumours. Later lists nevertheless include the record, and it is regarded as the band's experimental high point.
