Encore

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Album

Encore is Sam Cooke's second studio album and was released in 1958 on Keen Records. Bumps Blackwell produced the record and wrote the arrangements. The album fits into a gradual shift towards more elaborate productions of Cooke's songs: on six of the twelve tracks, horns are added.

The record consists of well-known standards, such as When I Fall in Love, My Foolish Heart, I Cover the Waterfront and Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive. Cooke is thus not singing his own work, but songs that had long existed. Incidentally, the sleeve gives the wrong composers' names for When I Fall in Love and My Foolish Heart. Both songs were written by Victor Young. On the cover Cooke wears a grey suit and has closely cropped hair.
