The Eminem Show
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Eminem Show · On 26 May 2002 Eminem's fourth album was released. He produced most of it himself. Dr. Dre was executive producer and made three tracks, and Jeff Bass worked on the later singles. The title comes from the film The Truman Show: his life felt like a circus in which he was always being watched.
After two albums about the frustration of the American underclass, the tone here is more personal. The lyrics deal with fame, his family and the United States after 9/11. There is also more rock than before. Sing for the Moment uses a sample of Dream On by Aerosmith, and the beat of 'Till I Collapse leans on the intro of We Will Rock You by Queen. Critics praised the mature, introspective lyrics and the experimental productions. Several magazines named it the best album of 2002, and it won a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
