What’s Bin Did and What’s Bin Hid

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

What’s Bin Did and What’s Bin Hid · This is the debut album of the Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan, released on 14 May 1965 on Pye. At the end of 1964 Peter Eden and Geoff Stephens had offered him a contract. He was already known in British folk circles. His 1964 demos resembled Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan strongly, which earned him the nickname Britain's answer to Dylan. On the album his style is already beginning to diverge. He re-recorded Catch the Wind for the record.

He sings and plays harmonica and acoustic guitar, as in his live performances. Car Car is a song by Guthrie, Tangerine Puppet is British folk and Cuttin' Out contains jazz elements. The album reached number 3 in the United Kingdom. In the United States it was released under the title Catch the Wind.

Listening

Listening tip. In Catch the Wind, listen to the combination of voice, acoustic guitar and harmonica.
