Four Seasons of Love

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

In October 1976 Donna Summer released Four Seasons of Love, her third concept album. Unlike the previous two, with one long song on side one, this album is more evenly divided. It tells a love story through the four seasons. Side one has Spring Affair and Summer Fever, both disco tracks. Side two has Autumn Changes, somewhat slower, Winter Melody at a slower tempo still, and a reprise of Spring Affair.

Summer was accompanied by the Munich Machine and Giorgio Moroder mixed the album. With the LP came a calendar for 1977 with four photographs, one for each season. The album went gold in the United States and reached number 29 on the Billboard 200. All four songs with a season in the title reached number one on the disco and dance chart.

Listening tip. Listen to Winter Melody and notice how much slower the tempo is than in the earlier disco tracks.
