Everything Is Everything

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Everything Is Everything is Diana Ross's second studio album and was released on 3 November 1970 on Motown. After her self-titled debut, containing among others Ain't No Mountain High Enough, the label hurried to make a follow-up. The producers Deke Richards and Hal Davis were instructed to make the album somewhat more pop-oriented than the soulful debut that Ashford & Simpson had produced. The album contains covers of hits by The Beatles and The Carpenters.

The first single, I'm Still Waiting, became a number one hit in England in 1971. Doobedood'ndoobe, Doobedood'ndoobe, Doobedood'ndoo followed and reached number twelve. Her version of I Love You (Call Me), originally by Aretha Franklin, was nominated for a Grammy. The album did not match the successes of the debut, but many fans still saw it as a worthy counterpart. In 2008 an expanded CD appeared with remixes and unreleased recordings.

Listening tip. Listen to Come Together, a cover of The Beatles, and notice how the singer makes the song her own. Compare it with the original if you know it.
