Dexter Gordon recorded Go! on 27 August 1962 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, with Rudy Van Gelder as engineer. Alfred Lion produced for Blue Note, on which the record was released in December 1962 as BLP 4112. Gordon plays tenor saxophone in a quartet with Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass and Billy Higgins on drums.
It is hard bop in six tracks, together just over thirty-seven minutes long, with standards such as "Love for Sale" and "I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry". Down Beat and AllMusic gave the record five stars. Blue Note reissued Go! in March 1999 in the RVG series, supervised by Michael Cuscuna. In 2019 the Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry.
