Looking for Freedom

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Looking for Freedom is Hasselhoff's third studio album and was released on 21 June 1989 on White Records. His first two records, Night Rocker and Lovin' Feelings, were successful in Europe thanks to Knight Rider. After his first tour of Austria in 1987 he began working with the German producer Jack White. Their first collaboration was the title song, which Marc Seaberg had already recorded in 1978.

Looking for Freedom spent eight weeks at number one in Germany and became his biggest hit in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Is Everybody Happy followed as the second single. He also sang the title song at the Berlin Wall on New Year's Eve 1989. The album itself reached the top five in Germany and Austria and the top three in Switzerland. Later that year a version appeared under the title Lonely Is the Night, with ten of the thirteen songs.
