Rock Me Baby

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Rock Me Baby · After his debut Cherish, David Cassidy wanted to leave his teen image behind. On his second solo album, produced in 1972 by Wes Farrell for Bell Records, rock, soul and R&B therefore came to the fore. According to AllMusic, Farrell was officially the producer, but the choice of songs and styles showed that the singer also had a say himself. He wrote Two Time Loser and wrote Song for a Rainy Day together with Kim Carnes.

The album opens with the title song, a robust dip into glam rock, which reached the top 40 in the United States. The cover of How Can I Be Sure, originally by the Young Rascals, did even better and spent two weeks at number 1 in the United Kingdom. The album itself reached number 41 in the American chart and rose to number 2 in England. In 2003 it was released on CD by Arista.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to the opening song Rock Me Baby and notice how hard and direct the band sounds, and compare that with the softer pop sound of How Can I Be Sure.
