Cosmo’s Factory
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Cosmo’s Factory · Creedence Clearwater Revival's fifth studio album was released in July 1970 on Fantasy Records. The title refers to the shed in Berkeley where the band practised in its early years. Drummer Doug Clifford, nicknamed Cosmo, called that place The Factory, because John Fogerty had them rehearse there almost every day. Six of the eleven tracks were released as singles in 1970.
The album shows the roots of the swamp rock sound: R&B, soul, country, rockabilly and psychedelia. Travelin' Band is a salute to Little Richard. Lookin' Out My Back Door nods to the Bakersfield Sound and was written by Fogerty for his three-year-old son. There is also a seven-minute opener, Ramble Tamble, and an eleven-minute version of I Heard It Through the Grapevine. The album spent nine weeks at number one on the Billboard 200.
