Slicker Than Your Average

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Slicker Than Your Average is Craig David's second album and was released on 19 November 2002 on Atlantic Records. After the success of Born to Do It, with which he also broke through in the United States, his style shifted towards a sound closer to American R&B than to the British garage of his debut. According to him the title can be read in two ways: as arrogance, but also as a sign of more calm and control.

He wrote World Filled with Love after being forced to stay for a week in a hotel room in New York following the attacks of 11 September 2001. The record leaked onto the internet before its release, which did not bother him much. Critics responded with mixed to positive reviews. The Guardian called it a remarkable record that at its best sounds curiously unique, while Blender mainly heard Timbaland-like productions, ballads and even Spanish guitars.
