Born to Do It
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Born to Do It is the debut album by the English singer Craig David and was released in August 2000 on Wildstar Records. After his work with the group Damage and with the garage duo Artful Dodger, Wildstar first gave him a development deal and then an album deal. Recording had already begun in 1999, before there was a label, in a small studio in Southampton. There he and Mark Hill wrote and produced most of the record themselves. Fill Me In was the last track to be completed.
The album blends 2-step garage with R&B, with acoustic guitars, strings and strong beats and bass. The lyrics are about love, complicated relationships and going out. With 7 Days and Fill Me In he reached number one in Britain. Critics received the record positively, although some found it a little monotonous. MTV included it in a list of the best albums ever.
