Heaven Tonight
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Heaven Tonight is Cheap Trick's third studio album. Producer Tom Werman recorded it and it was released on 24 April 1978. The debut showed the band's dark, raw side and In Color a lighter, more pop-oriented side. On this album the two come together: a rock record full of hooks with a good dose of cheek.
Among the best-known songs are Surrender, Auf Wiedersehen, the title track and a cover of California Man by The Move. The album is said to be the first ever recorded with a twelve-string electric bass. There is a story about the sleeve: the record company wanted to call the record American Standard, a wink at the manufacturer of bathroom fixtures. The band thought nothing of it, but did keep the photograph, which shows the four of them standing in a public toilet. Many fans and critics see Heaven Tonight as the group's best album.
