From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Powerpop · Power pop is guitar pop with the melodies and harmony singing of the early Beatles and the force of loud guitars. In the early 1970s it was played by Badfinger, Raspberries and Big Star, followed later by Cheap Trick and The Knack. In 1994, Weezer made a declaration of love to the 1950s with Buddy Holly, played on heavily distorted guitars: power pop for the alternative rock generation.
