Of Course, Of Course

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Of Course, Of Course was the second album saxophonist Charles Lloyd made for Columbia. He plays tenor saxophone and flute, together with guitarist Gábor Szabó, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams. It was recorded in Columbia Studio A in New York, spread over three sessions: in May 1964 and in March and October 1965.

Lloyd wrote most of the music himself. In addition there are two older songs: The Best Thing for You by Irving Berlin and The Things We Did Last Summer by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne. The reviewers Scott Yanow and Thom Jurek gave the record four stars. According to them, Lloyd showed here, on tenor and on flute, that he was quickly finding a voice of his own, and they called it an underrated album and a minor classic.
