Blood on the Tracks
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Blood on the Tracks · After a tour with The Band in 1974, Bob Dylan began work on new songs, written after lessons with the painter Norman Raeben, who by his own account changed his view of time. He re-signed with Columbia and in September 1974 began recording at A & R Studios in New York, under producer Phil Ramone. He chose bare acoustic arrangements and worked spontaneously. When his brother felt the record sounded too bare, he re-recorded five songs in late December at Sound 80 in Minneapolis.
The songs are often read as an account of a marriage in crisis, although he denies they are autobiographical. Tangled Up In Blue jumps through time, and Idiot Wind is a fierce reckoning. The first reviews were mixed, but later the record came to be regarded by critics and fans as one of this singer's best and as a fixture on lists of the greatest albums ever.
