Leisure
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Leisure · Blur released this debut album on 26 August 1991 on Food Records. The band took their lead from the Madchester and shoegaze that were popular in the British indie scene at the time, very different from the Britpop they would later come to define. It was also the start of their collaboration with producer Stephen Street, who produced most of the twelve tracks.
The album contains the first three singles: She's So High, There's No Other Way and Bang. Sing, a song the band had already recorded as a demo in 1989, later ended up on the soundtrack of Trainspotting. The British press responded with mixed reviews, but the album reached number 7 in the UK chart and went gold. Damon Albarn later called it an unpleasant experience and the band played little of it live. Only There's No Other Way and She's So High remained regular fixtures in the setlist.
