Dude Ranch

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Dude Ranch is the second studio album by Blink-182 and was released on 17 June 1997. It came out on Cargo Music, with MCA Records handling distribution. After Cheshire Cat the band had toured extensively, including on the 1996 Warped Tour, and as a result had attracted the interest of major labels. It is the last record to feature all three original members: drummer Scott Raynor was fired in 1998.

The band chose producer Mark Trombino for his work in the emerging emo scene. He pushed for tighter, more disciplined recordings. The songs, largely written on the road, blend the band's familiar goofy humour with themes such as growing up and relationships. The sleeve plays with absurd cowboy imagery. Dammit became a hit on modern rock radio and won over new listeners. The record received mostly good reviews.
