Rock ’n Roll Stage Show
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Rock ’n Roll Stage Show · This album was released in August 1956 on Decca and was the band's first with new material rather than previously released tracks. Bill Haley and His Comets were not featured on it only for their singer: Haley can be heard on just four tracks. The other band members were given room.
Saxophonist Rudy Pompilli plays the lead in the instrumental Rudy's Rock, guitarist Franny Beecher in Goofin' Around and Blue Comet Blues, and steel guitarist Billy Williamson sings Hide and Seek by Big Joe Turner. On Rockin' Thru the Rye, Haley turned a poem by Robert Burns into a rock 'n' roll song. Almost all the tracks were new and written by Haley or his Comets. Some of them were heard in the film Don't Knock the Rock. In England the album spent a week at number one in 1956.
