Dangerously in Love

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Dangerously in Love · During the recording of Survivor, Destiny's Child's third album, it was decided that each member would make a solo record. From March 2002 to March 2003 Beyoncé worked on her debut in various studios, while the group lay dormant. She chose the producers herself, started in Miami with Scott Storch and took her time, unlike with the rushed group albums. As executive producer she co-wrote the majority of the songs. Guests included Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Big Boi and Luther Vandross.

The music is mainly R&B, with elements of soul, hip hop and Arabic music, and alternates fast tracks with ballads. Crazy in Love and Baby Boy spent eight and nine weeks respectively at number one on the American Hot 100. Reviews were mixed, but the album became a great commercial success and won five Grammys, including Best Contemporary R&B Album.
