Hello Nasty
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Hello Nasty · The Beastie Boys released this fifth album in July 1998, more than four years after Ill Communication. By their own account they spent so long in the studio that they lost touch with the music world. Mix Master Mike, a DMC champion, joined as the new DJ. Guests included Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto on I Don't Know and Lee Scratch Perry on Dr. Lee, Phd. The title is said to come from the receptionist at their New York PR agency, who answered the phone with Hello, Nasty.
According to Pitchfork the record is a love letter to 1980s hip hop, with 808s, disco breaks, beatboxing and scratches, interrupted by dub tracks and ballads. Song for the Man leans towards lounge pop, Song for Junior has a Latin flavour and Flowin' Prose a drum and bass rhythm. Critics were full of praise. Intergalactic won a Grammy for best rap performance by a duo or group.
