I’ve Got So Much to Give
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
I’ve Got So Much to Give · I've Got So Much to Give was released in March 1973 on the 20th Century label and was the singer's debut album. Gene Page did the arrangements together with him. The record already shows what he would stand for: a velvet baritone, surrounded by lush strings. The album topped the R&B chart and reached number 16 on the Billboard 200. Two singles came out of it that reached the R&B top ten: I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby became number 1 and the title track also did well.
Stephen Erlewine of AllMusic wrote that his sound was already fully formed here and that the closing track was so seductive that it set the tone for the rest of his career. Robert Christgau saw in him a blend of the power of Isaac Hayes and the friendliness of Al Green.
