This Is Augustus Pablo
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
This Is Augustus Pablo · Augustus Pablo released this album in 1974. His childhood friend and reggae producer Clive Chin co-wrote and co-produced it. A whole series of session musicians worked on it, including Ansel Collins on keyboards and Lloyd Parks and Aston Barrett on bass guitar. Carlton Santa Davis, George Fullwood and Earl Chinna Smith are also on the list of musicians.
The album has twelve short instrumental tracks of about three minutes, with titles such as Dub Organizer, Point Blank and Jah Rock. It is one of the first albums on which Pablo's own use of the melodica can be heard, the small keyed wind instrument that would become his trademark. The band plays a rhythmic, spacious reggae sound around it, in which the keyboard work is given plenty of room.
