Ital Dub

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Ital Dub was released in 1974. The album came about with Tommy Cowan and Warwick Lyn as producers, instead of Clive Chin, with whom Augustus Pablo had worked before. The role of King Tubby, who mixed the tracks, is striking. He would often do so for Pablo again later.

The album has twelve short tracks, most of about three minutes. Almost all of the pieces were written by Pablo himself, with titles such as The Big Rip Off, Gun Trade and House Raid. Road Block and Curly Dub are also included, with contributors including Bob Marley and Junior Byles. It is a dub record: the space, the echo and the mixing by King Tubby determine the sound here.
