Happy Moods
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Happy Moods contains recordings from 1960 and was released on the Argo label. Ahmad Jamal plays piano here, with Israel Crosby on bass and Vernel Fournier on drums. It is therefore a trio, as the pianist often did.
The record has ten tracks. The repertoire consists of well-known songs by composers such as Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn and Kurt Weill, supplemented by two of his own pieces, Excerpt from the Blues and Rhumba No. 2. The longest tracks are Pavanne and Little Old Lady; the shortest is Time on My Hands, which lasts less than two minutes. AllMusic gave the album three stars and wrote that it does nothing to undermine the position of those who feel that Jamal deserves a much higher standing than he usually receives.
