Voulez‐vous

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Voulez‐vous · Voulez-Vous was released on 23 April 1979 and is ABBA's sixth studio album. The recording went with difficulty. After six months only two tracks were finished, and tension within the group was rising. During that time the group opened its own Polar Studios in Stockholm. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus then withdrew to the Bahamas, where the title song and Kisses of Fire were written. They recorded the basic tracks of Voulez-Vous in Miami with the disco band Foxy, the only time the group recorded outside Sweden.

The record heads for the dance floor, and the cover was shot in a Stockholm nightclub. Chiquitita, Does Your Mother Know, I Have a Dream and Voulez-Vous/Angeleyes became hits. Critics were largely positive, although one reviewer found the album neat but clinical. In England it stayed at number one for a month.
