Super Trouper
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Super Trouper · In January 1980, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson travelled to Barbados to write new songs. Recording at Polar Studios in Stockholm then continued throughout the year, with a break for a short tour of Japan. The title was settled early on; the title track itself was not written until October in the studio. It was the last album ABBA recorded while Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson were still married.
After the disco era of Voulez-Vous, the group sounded more straightforwardly pop again. The big single was The Winner Takes It All, partly about Björn and Agnetha's broken marriage. Lay All Your Love On Me is electronic dance music, and The Piper has lyrics inspired by a novel by Stephen King. The album received a positive reception and is regarded by some as their best studio record.
