Radiophonic Workshop
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
From 1958, the BBC had its own department for electronic sound, the Radiophonic Workshop, which made sounds and music for radio and television. In 1963, Delia Derbyshire built the Doctor Who theme, composed by Ron Grainer, note by note from oscillators, noise and tape loops. The staff worked anonymously.
Listening
Listening tip. The Doctor Who bass line is made from a single plucked string, cut again and again at a different pitch.
