Nederbeat

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Nederbeat · Around the Beatles' visit in June 1964, beat bands sprang up all over the Netherlands, with The Hague as the centre: the Golden Earrings, Q65, the Motions and Shocking Blue. Almost all of them sang in English; Cuby + Blizzards played heavy blues from Grolloo. In February 1970 Shocking Blue's Venus became the first Dutch record to reach number 1 in the Billboard Hot 100.

Listening

Listening tip. Notice the simple guitar riff of Venus and the chorus that you can sing along to after hearing it once.
