Venus
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song
On 6 September 1986, Venus by Bananarama was number one in America. It was a new version of a 1969 hit by the Dutch band Shocking Blue. The three singers wanted to turn it into a dance track and approached Stock Aitken Waterman. They hesitated at first, but gave in. The hit factory from south London now had a number one in America as well.
Listening
Listening tip. Hear how the guitar riff of Shocking Blue has been replaced by a fast synthesizer and a tight drum machine.
