Rogier van Otterloo

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Rogier van Otterloo, son of the conductor Willem van Otterloo, was an arranger and conductor with Dutch broadcasting and in light music. In the 1970s he became the regular composer for Paul Verhoeven. For Turks Fruit (1973) he wrote a melancholy score in which Toots Thielemans's harmonica plays a leading role. Keetje Tippel (1975) and Soldaat van Oranje (1977) followed, with a large orchestra and a heroic main theme. Van Otterloo brought the sound of the broadcasting orchestra, with strings, jazz soloists and light pop influences, to the Dutch feature film. He died in 1988 at the age of 46.
