Robin S.
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Robin S. is the stage name of Robin Stone, an American singer, born in 1962 in Queens, New York. She worked as a house singer and became best known for Show Me Love. The first version of that song appeared in 1990 and was produced by Fred McFarlane. At the time it was only a modest success.
Music and breakthrough
In 1993 the Swedish DJ and producer StoneBridge made a remix, and Big Beat Records re-released that recording under the name Robin S. This time it did become a big hit, which also reached number one in the American dance clubs. The 1993 album Show Me Love was largely produced by StoneBridge. Luv 4 Luv was the follow-up. Her second album From Now On appeared in 1997 on Atlantic Records, with Todd Terry and Eric Miller among the producers. It went beyond dance music and also contained gospel and R&B ballads. The single It Must Be Love was again a hit in the clubs.
Influence
In Europe her music always found a larger audience than at home. She performed during a European tour in 2004 and became a regular guest at parties built around the music of the 1990s. In October 2008 the radio mix of Show Me Love reached the top of the Dutch Top 40, her most successful song in the Netherlands. In 2016 she was back at the top of the American dance chart with Shout It Loud, together with the DJ Escape.
