Ramin Djawadi

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Ramin Djawadi (born in 1974 in Duisburg) has an Iranian father and a German mother. He studied at Berklee and began in the studio of Hans Zimmer. For Iron Man (2008) he wrote a score with hard rock guitars. He became well known through the series Game of Thrones (2011). Its opening theme is built on a repeated rhythmic motif in the cello, which follows the mechanical map in the opening images. In Westworld (2016) a player piano plays covers of pop songs, such as songs by Radiohead, as a nod to the Wild West setting. For House of the Dragon (2022) he built on his earlier themes.

Listening

Listening tip. Notice the short, repeated motif in the cello that keeps returning at a different pitch and so builds the tension.
