Pink

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Pink, the stage name of Alecia Moore, is an American singer from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She began in the 1990s in a girl group, but around 2000 went her own way as a solo artist. Her debut album Can't Take Me Home appeared in 2000 and brought her a first string of hits. With Missundaztood, from 2001, she deliberately chose a more individual and more rock-oriented sound.

Music and breakthrough

Pink's music moves between pop, rock and R&B. Her voice is raw and powerful, and her songs combine a razor-sharp tone with catchy choruses. Later came albums such as I'm Not Dead and The Truth About Love, and songs such as So What became known worldwide. She is also known for her spectacular live shows, in which acrobatics play a large part.

Influence

In School of Rock Pink appears in a row of big names for whom the hit factory of Swedish and American songwriters and producers worked. That shows how a pop star of this size operates: the singer is the face and the voice, while a team of writers and producers helps shape the songs.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to So What and notice the combination of a tight pop rhythm and guitars that sound almost like rock. Can you hear how the voice switches between mocking and exuberant?
