From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Peter Frampton was born in 1950 in Beckenham, Kent. His father was an art teacher at his school. At seven he found his grandmother's banjolele in the attic, on which he taught himself to play. Later he taught himself guitar and piano, and at eight he began classical lessons. He was influenced by Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, the Ventures, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles, and his father played him records by the Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt.

Music and breakthrough

Frampton became known as a member of the rock bands The Herd and Humble Pie. He then achieved great success as a solo artist. His breakthrough was the 1976 live album Frampton Comes Alive!, the best-selling album of that year in the United States, with several hit singles. His best-known songs are Show Me the Way, Baby, I Love Your Way, Do You Feel Like We Do and I'm in You, which can still be heard on classic rock radio. Earlier solo albums include Wind of Change (1972) and Frampton (1975).

Influence

He has worked with Ringo Starr, John Entwistle of The Who, David Bowie, Joe Bonamassa and with Matt Cameron and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. He appeared as himself in television series such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. In 2024 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
