Josquin des Prez
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Josquin des Prez came from northern France and worked in Milan, in the papal chapel in Rome and at the court of Ferrara, before settling in Condé-sur-l'Escaut. He made all the voices equal and had them imitate one another, so that the text remained clear to follow. His motet Ave Maria virgo serena opens with exactly such a series of entries, voice after voice. Thanks to the new music printing, he became the first composer with true European fame.
