Eivør Pálsdóttir, Eivør for short, is a Faroese singer and songwriter, born in 1983 and raised in Syðrugøta. She appeared on television at the age of thirteen. In 1999, aged fifteen, she became the singer of the group Clickhaze, and a year later her first album, Eivør Pálsdóttir, was released. In 2002 she moved to Reykjavik to study music. In 2004 she was named Faroese of the Year. She made albums such as Krákan from 2003, Trøllabundin from 2005 and Mannabarn from 2007, which was released simultaneously in an English version, Human Child.
Music and breakthrough
With Larva from 2010 she left her folk sound for a more experimental and more electronic style. Room from 2012 won three Faroese music awards, including best album. In 2015 the two sister albums Bridges in English and Slør in Faroese were released. In 2016 she worked with Bear McCreary on the music for the computer game God of War and performed it live with an orchestra. That year At the Heart of a Selkie with the DR Big Band also appeared. In 2018 came a collaboration with John Lunn for a television series. Later she signed to Season of Mist and in 2025 to Nuclear Blast.
Influence
Eivør combines Nordic folk, jazz, pop and electronics, often with heavy, rhythmic singing and mythical subjects. Her voice is powerful and can sound both whisper-soft and raw. She brings the music of the Faroe Islands to an international audience, and shows how tradition and electronics can strengthen each other.
