Boban Marković, from Vladičin Han in southern Serbia, turned his Roma brass band into one of the most famous in the Balkans. At the trumpet festival in Guča he won the prize for best trumpeter five times between 1988 and 2001. His orchestra played in the music for Emir Kusturica's film Underground (1995). Since 2002 his son Marko has played with him, later becoming the most important soloist and arranger.
Listening
Listening tip. Listen to Wedding Cocec: the tubas stamp out an irregular dance rhythm, and the trumpets play fast, ornamented melodies over it.
