Keith Jarrett

Keith Jarrett uit Allentown, Pennsylvania, was een wonderkind aan de piano en noemde later Bill Evans als een van zijn voorbeelden. Hij speelde bij Art Blakey, Charles Lloyd en Miles Davis. Bij ECM nam hij vanaf 1971 soloplaten op en vanaf 1973 soloconcerten die geheel geïmproviseerd waren. Het concert in de Opera van Keulen op 24 januari 1975, georganiseerd door de zeventienjarige Vera Brandes, werd op een slechte vleugel gespeeld; Jarrett bleef daarom in het middenregister en bij herhaalde figuren. The Köln Concert werd het best verkochte soloalbum van de jazz. Hij leidde een Amerikaans en een Europees kwartet, met Jan Garbarek, en vanaf 1983 het Standards Trio. Na twee beroertes in 2018 kan hij niet meer spelen.
