John Cage
Uit HitStory, de popencyclopedie van School of Rock · Artiest
John Cage uit Los Angeles studeerde bij Schönberg en werkte daarna in New York, vaak samen met de choreograaf Merce Cunningham. Hij stopte schroeven en gummetjes tussen de pianosnaren en schiep zo de geprepareerde piano, een slagwerkensemble onder tien vingers. Later liet hij het Chinese orakelboek I Ching zijn composities bepalen. Zijn 4'33'' uit 1952, waarin de musici zwijgen, maakt van de geluiden in de zaal de muziek.
